Runescape Duel Arena Tricks?

Every time I fight in the arena I feel like I lose. Is there any tricks that makes one person better than the other ( I will not range or mage!!!)

If you only fight melee, I'm going to assume that your opponent also fights using only melee.

Well, at least we've narrowed it down to melee.
Now....I'm going to assume that you and your opponent are equally matched in attack, strength and defense levels.
If your opponents we're all higher than you in those skills, I'm sure you would've noticed and that may be the difference in the fight. If you don't look up your opponent's stats in hiscories before the fight, then you are unaware of their attk, str and def levels. Keep in mind, that just because you and someone else are the same combat level, does not mean that attk, str and def lvls are the same. There are players who will stop training def at lvl 40 (just to wear rune) and from then on, only train str (just to hit harder). The four things that determine combat level are: str, attk, def and prayer. So, keep those in mind:)

Also, be aware of the equipment your opponents wear. Especially be aware of any items that give attk bonuses (rune boots +2 str, obby shield/rune defender +5 str, fighter torso +4 str, warrior helm-helm of neitiznot-bezerker helm, amulets, gloves (from the Recipe for disaster quest)....I know I'm rambling, but you get the idea...be familiar with the equipment. As far as things you can't see (ie. warrior/bezerker rings), you can only assume.

Also keep things like potions in mind, unless you make sure those items can't be used in the duel....or try ingesting the potions before picking your opponent. I am not aware if the setting, "no potions," will reset your stats back to normal if you drank a potion a minute, or even seconds before the start of the duel.
Also, make note of weapons that are stronger or faster. Some people choose to wield a (for example) granite maul for a fairly good crush attack, yet they have to deal with it hitting slowly, and being without a shield. Others opt for a sword (d long), and so they have a fast weapon and can use a shield, but at the same time they are fighting using slash which isn't as effective as crush when fighting plate armor.

Still others carry more than one weapon. A lot of people do this with their main weapon and a dds. They will attk first with a dds special, and then switch to their main weapon.

Also while you fight, maybe turning on your prayer will help. Not just protect from melee, but also the prayer that increase attk and str by 5, 10 and 15%...those can help in combat.
